Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Meetup

July 15, 2018 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm America/Los Angeles Timezone
Bellingham Makerspace
1000 F St
Bellingham, WA 98225

We are entering an era in which our lives will be more and more entwined with and coerced by artificial intelligences, so I think it is important to understand both how machine learning works and how to ask a question and understand the results. There is currently a lot of hype around machine learning, but even within the field it is considered a modern alchemy with practitioners knowing how to use the incantations, but little understanding of exactly why and how it works.

This meetup is primarily for providing opportunities to practice machine-learning skills. There will be an emphasis on hands-on exercises, so some software development experience will be helpful, but not required.

Eventually, I am hoping we will be able to start performing citizen science on public datasets as people start to posit specific questions. I believe that understanding how machine learning works will help people develop questions that are appropriate for machine learning.

We will be meeting from 3 to 5 pm every third Sunday of the month at the Bellingham Makerspace, 1000 F Street, Bellingham, Washington. Free and open to everyone.
